	Seven for a Secret

A series of performances and a score
Commissioned by Van Gogh House London, exhibited in Van Gogh House London at the Festival of Encounters
	In Seven for a Secret, artists Hildur Elísa Jónsdóttir and Caz Egelie reflect on the presence of the three seamstresses who were living in Van Gogh House around 1873. In this performance, the space is activated by live interventions and sculptural elements developed during their residency at the house in July and August, drawing inspiration from visits to historical textile archives and gossip picked up along the way. While rooted in the house’s history, the work also engages with its current role as a museum, a studio and a residency. Through playful gestures and transient tales, Seven for a Secret invites the audience to stitch together timelines, textures, and truths, eventually becoming part of the play.&#38;nbsp;

Popsicle’s Lament2025Operatic performance1 hour

Commissioned by het resort and presented at S08E01 exhibition ‘doesn’t last then, does it?’
	

A single performer, dressed in a shimmering white costume reminiscent of a glacier, mourns the slow thawing of a popsicle as it melts away in their hands. As they watch it disappear, they sing an original lament, mourning the fleeting nature of things. Through this simple yet absurd ritual, the piece lingers in themes of transience and loss, tracing the quiet unravelling of landscapes, the erosion of memory, and the departure of loved ones. The act of holding on, despite knowing the inevitable, becomes a metaphor for grief: a tender, futile attempt to preserve what cannot be kept.

	A group of overdressed and unapologetically loud women gather at the bar. Following sequences and gestures dictated by a card game, the party moves from quiet gossip to revelling in noise and excess. The piece is reinterpreted each time, shifting with the mood and chemistry of its performers in an exuberant ode to female friendship, gossip and the gospel truth.

Length and scope varyPresented at O. Festival (NL), Hamraborg Festival (IS), and the Sandberg Instituut Graduation Exhibition (NL), and in SIGN (NL)

	Fanfare is a series of performative compositions for groups of vocalists, and everyday items, in various shapes and sizes inspired by the city soundscape. Each of fanfare’s movements represents a different means of transportation while highlighting the internal struggles the fast-paced city life invokes. During the performances, performers travel through the exhibition or concert space, immersing themselves and the audience in a playful yet serious way through sound, movement and repitition.

	At the Sandberg Instute Graduation Exhibition, fanfare was performed by Amanda Payne Ari Teperberg, Caz Egelie, Hildur Elísa Jónsdóttir, Mica Pan, Michiel Tieew, Sabine Pendry, SasaHara Ghanem-Chaney and Simone GoslingaPhotos by LNDW Studio

	In demons possessed (laughing women), two costumed performers holding a plastic bag full of flowers between them walk backwards throughout the exhibition space, leading the audience in a parade of sorts. During their walk, the performers repeat a simple song for two voices, imitating the sounds of backing cars and laughing women. Throughout the repetitions, the performers have the freedom to play with the emotional scale, ranging from menacing to happy to sad, so that no two repetitions are the same.&#38;nbsp;

	frequency of immediacy or núna strax ruptures the exhibition space with a seven piece vocal ensemble playing bike bells while aggressively running around and yelling at each other. The ensemble repeats a composition that playfully imitates aggressive bikers, ambulance alarms, and the soft, morphine induced bliss after an accident.

	Seeking Solace delves into the stark contrast between the outward face of professional life and the internal struggles modern individuals face. The lyrics are inspired by candid and confessional videos found on TikTok, highlighting the profound duality between the open expressions people share online and the guarded fronts they present in their everyday lives. The impostor syndrome in the lyrics becomes even more apparent by juxtaposing the unhinged confessions and the archaic folk songs. While the lyrics are intimate and unrelenting, the folk songs are reassuring and comforting - a paradox that many relate to from their own lives in regard to their inner dialogue as opposed to external circumstances.

	Seeking Solace delves into the stark contrast between the outward face of professional life and the internal struggles modern individuals face. The lyrics are inspired by candid and confessional videos found on TikTok, highlighting the profound duality between the open expressions people share online and the guarded fronts they present in their everyday lives. The impostor syndrome in the lyrics becomes even more apparent by juxtaposing the unhinged confessions and the archaic folk songs. While the lyrics are intimate and unrelenting, the folk songs are reassuring and comforting - a paradox that many relate to from their own lives in regard to their inner dialogue as opposed to external circumstances.
